Easy, compact, and endlessly charming — a spicy addition to any plant collection.
Peperomia Cayenne Care Guide
Bright to medium indirect light is ideal and helps maintain the warm, rich leaf coloring this variety is known for. An east or west-facing window works best. Avoid direct sun which can bleach the foliage and very low light which will diminish the vibrancy of the leaf color.
Allow the top half of the soil to dry between waterings, roughly every 10–14 days. The thick, semi-succulent leaves store water efficiently making this plant very forgiving. Always use a well-draining mix and a pot with drainage holes.
Handles average to low indoor humidity without issue and requires no supplemental moisture. A reliable performer in a wide range of indoor environments including offices and rooms without humidity control.
Thrives in warm, stable indoor temperatures. Avoid temperatures below 55°F and keep away from cold drafts and air conditioning vents. Consistent warmth is key to preventing the leaf drop and discoloration that cold stress causes in peperomias.
Grown as a year-round houseplant in all but the most frost-free Zones 10–12. Its adaptability and low-maintenance nature make it one of the most reliably easy-going small houseplants in our collection.
Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer at half strength. Our Instant Plant Food makes it simple — just add to your watering can once a month. Reduce in fall and pause through winter.
Repot every two years in spring into a container only 1 inch larger with good drainage. Use a light, well-draining potting mix amended with perlite. Water sparingly after repotting and keep in bright indirect light while settling.
Wipe leaves gently with a soft damp cloth monthly to remove dust and keep the warm foliage colors looking vivid. Remove any yellowing leaves at the base as they appear. Handle gently as leaves can detach easily.
Remove a healthy leaf with its stem, allow to dry briefly, and insert into moist well-draining mix. For stem cuttings take a 2–3 inch section, callous briefly, and plant in moist mix. New growth typically appears within 3–5 weeks in a warm, bright location.
